7 Ways to Maximise Your Campervan Storage

Van life….the wind in your hair and sand in your toes….waking up in a new place every morning….taking your home away from home with you. The campervan lifestyle is awesome but travelling in a tiny home can have some limitations – and at the top of that list is finding the right storage solutions for your needs. We’ve compiled a list of our top ideas that will help you find space the next time you are wondering,  how to maximise your campervan storage.

1. Storage Nets

Storage nets are a fantastic idea – they can be mounted to the tops of your walls, in your cupboards or virtually anywhere. You can use them to store fruit and vegetables, odds and sods or toiletries. And best of all they are soft – they are light and you won’t bang your head or kick your shin on them – plus they can lay flat when not in use.

2. Campervan Kitchen

Kitchen space in your RV is usually at a premium – some space saving ideas include:

  • Using magnetic strips fastened to side walls or cupboard doors to store knives and metal utensils
  • Using a Lazy Susan for easy access to the foodstuffs stored in your cupboards
  • Telescopic shelves – adding an additional shelf that can straddle over smaller items on the shelf below can be a great space saving technique. Great for things like tinned food, herbs, foil and wraps etc
  • If you want to get really funky, you can screw or glue the lids of mason jars to the bottom of your overhead cabinets and then screw on the jars for additional hanging storage – just make sure you check they are on tight before taking off!
  • Collapsible and stackable items are your friends – you can get everything from collapsible kettles to buckets and plastic containers
  • Dish cradles are also a great idea – these are purpose built to store you crockery securely and efficiently utilise space

3. Cushion Covers & Pouffes

If you are looking at sneaking some extra storage space in plain sight, try this handy tip – remove the internal cushion and use the space – you can fill them with anything soft like clothes, blankets, towels etc.

4. Detachable Storage

Another storage solution for your caravan or RV is to attach storage solutions to cupboards and doors:

  • You can get storage baskets that hook over the tops of cupboards and doors
  • Also plastic shoe rack organisers don’t just have to be for shoes – they can be handy for toiletries, towels, maps, books, just about anything
  • Wire magazine racks – again, not just for magazines! You can store things like cutting boards, trivets, pot holders and books in these

5. Storage Straps

You have probably seen these a variety of storage straps across the socials in all of the cool kids vans – leather or macrame straps where you can store things like hats or paper towel.

6. How You Fold Your Clothes

Did you know that the way you fold and pack your clothes can affect not only how much you can pack, but also in making it easier to access your clothes and belongings without making a big mess every time you want to grab an item from the cupboard. Why not try packing your clothes like Marie Kondo – roll, fold, stand upright – rethink the way you store your clothes! You may be surprised at what you might be able to fit in!
